BALKON OPERAAn Opera at the Window

A collection of duets, trios and other extracts from Mozart and Rossini’s operas

From Romeo and Juliet to the most famous serenades, the trope of the balcony dialogue never fails to evoke romance, offering the audience a suggestive acoustic play of voices.

For the second year, the Little Opera Festival brings the Balkon Opera (Balcony Opera) to its audience, staging the most beautiful duets, trios, and pieces from Mozart and Rossini’s operas.

On this occasion, the balcony in question belongs to the striking Dubrovo Castle in Slovenia. Once again, the Little Opera Festival is proud to recall two of its long-standing and prestigious collaborators behind the event: the Emil Komel Slovene Centre for Musical Education (Gorizia) and the Chigiana Academy of Music (Sienna). Reflecting the dialogic nature of the pieces to be performed, the project unites artists from both sides of the Italian-Slovene border: two sopranos, a mezzosoprano, a tenor, a baritone, and a bass-baritone chosen from among the most promising singers at Emil Komel Centre and the Chigiana Academy.

The performance will also be staged on 26th July 2023 as part of the Mittelfest at Cividale del Friuli.
