The Piccolo Opera Festival celebrates the magnificence of nature with one of Gustav Mahler’s most personal and profound creations. “Das Lied von der Erde” (The Song of the Earth) is a hymn to nature, beauty, and love, but it is also a philosophical work about the world’s eternal cycle of death and rebirth.

An extreme synthesis of Mahler’s emotional depth and expressive richness, this masterpiece masterfully blends the dimension, intimate and romantic, of the Lied and that, intense and dramatic, of the Symphony.

The combination of poetry, voice and orchestra creates a musical experience that intensely explores the human condition. Despite the often melancholy nature of the texts, the work ends on a note of serene acceptance with the words “Ewig… ewig…” (eternally… eternally…), suggesting a sense of peace and continuity beyond death.

The Windkraft group has enjoyed fame and appreciation since its founding in 1999. It began as a wind orchestra dedicated to the production and performance of contemporary music, bringing together two associations of musicians from the Tyrol and South Tyrol.

Regularly invited to major European contemporary music festivals, the orchestra gave voice for the first time to a hundred new scores, enriching a chamber repertoire among the most representative of new music.

In 2017 Windkraft was awarded the “Contemporary Music Prize” by the Land Tirol, which is given every 2 years to people who have distinguished themselves for their work in the field of contemporary music.

The concert is preceded by a tasting of selected local products, served in environmentally sustainable materials, by Chef Chiara Canzoneri.
