LE SETTE ULTIME PAROLE DI CRISTO SULLA CROCEFranz Joseph Haydn

DESCRIPTION
During the mid 17th century, the seven last words of Christ on the cross were set to music by a number of talented composers. In 1787 Haydn was asked to compose his version to accompany the Good Friday celebrations in the Chiesa della Santa Cueva in Cadice, Spain, designed to inspire meditation on the sacred text. This arrangement for String Quartet was published the same year and will be performed together with religious writings from José de Saramago, the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998.
