Section WAITING FOR THE KING. Weekend Borbone. Mini section dedicated to Gorizia and the Bourbon royal family curated in collaboration with GO!2025

The “Waiting for the King. Weekend Borbone” section, supported by GO! 2025, comes to a close with the last and most elevated of Rossini’s ‘Péchés de vieillesse’ (in Italian, Peccati di vecchiaia), a collection of over 100 pieces that Rossini dedicated himself to in his old age, and which he loved to perform during his social gatherings at the Rossini estate in Passy, near Paris.

The Petite Messe Solennelle, defined by the composer himself as “le dernier péché” (the last sin), is one of his greatest masterpieces of sacred music. Composed in 1863 in its original chamber version for soloists, choir, piano, and harmonium, it was later rearranged for orchestra and premiered on stage in Paris in 1869, just a year after the composer’s death.

On Sunday, June 23, at the enchanting location of the Convent of Castagnavizza (Nova Gorica – Slovenia) – a symbolic place that houses the remains of the last Bourbon king, Charles X, whose history is closely tied to that of Gioachino Rossini -, the Mass will be performed in its original version for piano and harmonium.

This choice of instruments gives the opera a character that intersects intimacy, solemnity, and reflection, and allows one to appreciate the melodic elegance and technical clarity of Rossini, which emerge from these pages with remarkable expressiveness, a sign of artistic maturity reached.

The concert is preceded by a tasting of selected local products, served in environmentally sustainable materials, by Chef Chiara Canzoneri.
